Groovy Pads for Your Best Period

Sew your own pads and accessories with a Sunshine Bums pattern!

What You'll Need to Get Started
-
12-24 cloth pads (at least 4 small, 4 medium, and 4 longer lengths)Ā
-
one large wet bag (about 12x12") for home bathroom storageĀ
-
one smaller wet bag (about 8x8") for on-the-go storage
-
optional extra wet bag for emergency car storage
-
optional menstrual cup and cup spot for on-the-go changesĀ (you'll use less pads if you also use a cup)
How long will my pads last?
Good pads can save you a lot of money over the long term. You can expect them to last 5+ years. Most of my pad stash is from 2016 when I began sewing pads, and they're still my favorites today.

Washing Instructions
-
Store pads dry, folded in thirds, in a wet bag until wash day.
-
When youāre ready to wash, soak pads in cold water with non-chlorine oxygen bleach for 4 hours to overnight, then wring excess water out of pads, OR simply wet the pads and rinse out any excess blood.
-
Launder pads as usual in cold water with your detergent of choice.
-
At this point you may choose to scrub and rinse any remaining stains using a stain stick or bar of laundry soap.
-
Lastly, air-dry clean pads or toss them in the dryer on moderate heat.
Do not use chlorine bleach, fabric softener, or lanolin on any Sunshine Bums products. Substitute plain white vinegar for fabric softener if you need to remove soap residue.
Wet Bags can be machine washed and dried in the same way as pads.Ā
What's the absorbency?
On the back of your pad you'll find either a white or grey snap.
white = light absorbency (single layer organic cotton flannel)
grey = extra absorbency (double layer organic cotton flannel/terry OR thick puppet sherpa/shag)
Is my pad leakproof?
All Sunshine Bums pads have a leakproof layer of WindPro Fleece or PUL-lined organic cotton sherpa.

Hi, I'm Tonya, owner and creator of Sunshine Bums Reusables.
In 2013 I developed an autoimmune disorder that caused me to seek non-toxic replacements for personal care items. I quickly fell in love with cloth pads because they're cute, comfortable, economical, and better for the environment.
Sunshine Bums was born when I created the pattern for my ideal pad with rounded wrap-around wings for comfort, no irritating tags, narrow and regular widths for the perfect fit, and high-quality, non-toxic materials.Ā
HopingĀ it brings a little more Sunshine into your life.Ā
XO
